Our Credo for Support

Providing support to individuals is all about helping people to achieve the quality of life they desire. All people have interests, goals, and dreams of what they want to accomplish, what they would like to do, where they see their lives going. Getting to the destination is important, and so is the journey along the way.

At IHAC, our credo for support relates directly to helping people achieve the quality of life they so desire by “Opening Opportunities at Every Step.”  We do this by listening, respecting, believing, and empowering, we can help people to achieve their goals and dreams one step at a time

Listening

Every person has a voice, an important voice.  We work hard to really listen to the individual and get to know what drives him/her.  The supports we offer are geared to the individual’s interests.  Listening helps ensure the support we offer meets the needs of the individual.  Taking the time to listen.

Respecting

Every person is unique as can be and makes an invaluable contribution.  We respect the whole person- his/her message, uniqueness, thoughts, dreams, and contributions – as that is what makes the person who they are.  Respecting differences.
   

Believing

Believing goes a long way. When people are chasing dreams on their own, reaching the destination seems so much harder, more lonely, and more daunting.  Having people who believe, who support and encourage, who inspire, who challenge, who help break down the barriers, who help build the paths. 

Empowering

We help people to get to know their communities, the opportunities and resources available, and to understand their rights, so that they can make informed choices and that their decisions are supported.  Allowing for the dignity of risk.
