Health & Safety

Health and safety of the people we support, families, visitors, employees – anyone who walks through our doors – is our top priority.

If we can’t do it safely, we don’t do it.  We step into safety.  Safety is # 1 for ALL.

Being reactive from situation to situation serves only to put out fires as they occur, and does not create a healthy and a safe environment.  That is why we work hard to take proactive steps towards prevention.  We look to the where the potential for a health or safety hazard exists and implement controls designed at prevention.

If an accident or injury should occur, we use all our resources to ensure the health and safety of the individual.  After the incident, we evaluate the situation – looking first at direct causes, then indirect causes, until we get to the root cause.  At the root cause level, we can once again look at being proactive on a larger scale to prevent a similar accident or injury from occurring in the future.

Our “Steppin' to Safety Program" is an agency wide health and safety program.

We are also a member of the Continuing Care Safety Association and are currently working towards achieving our Certificate of Recognition for the Partners in Injury Reduction Program.

IHAC conducts routine quality assurance inspections on all programs, facilities and agency fleet vehicles to ensure compliance with all provincial and federal safety legislation.  IHAC holds itself to a higher standard than just the minimum required.
